Maryland health officials are warning consumers to avoid any cheese products made by Clover Hill Dairy in Mechanicsville, following an expanded recall tied to ongoing listeria contamination concerns. The Maryland Department of Health and the Department of Agriculture issued the alert, urging the public not to eat, sell, or serve any cheeses from the dairy.
The recall now covers all Clover Hill Dairy cheeses, including varieties such as mozzarella, ricotta, and other fresh cheeses sold in retail stores and farmers markets across the state. The decision came after routine testing detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in some products. Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, pregnant women, and others with weakened immune systems.
Officials said the dairy has cooperated with the investigation and has halted production while the source of the contamination is identified. Consumers who have purchased any Clover Hill Dairy cheese are advised to discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase. The health department continues to monitor the situation and may issue further updates as more information becomes available. No illnesses have been reported so far, but authorities are urging caution.
