EASTON - The Cancer Center at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health has appointed Catalina Billings to a newly created role as coordinator of community outreach. The position is intended to improve public access to current cancer information and resources across the region.
Billings will focus on connecting residents with educational materials, screening guidelines, and prevention strategies. Her work will involve organizing community events, partnering with local organizations, and ensuring that people have accurate, timely knowledge about cancer risks and early detection.
Hospital officials said the role fills a gap in how information reaches the community. Many residents may not know about available services or recent advances in treatment. Billings will act as a bridge between the medical center and the public, tailoring outreach to meet local needs.
She brings experience in patient advocacy and public health education. Her background includes working with diverse populations to improve health literacy. In her new role, she will also coordinate with clinical staff to make sure community programs align with current medical practices.
The Cancer Center serves a wide area on the Eastern Shore. Adding a dedicated outreach coordinator reflects a broader effort to reduce barriers to care and promote proactive health management. Billings started her position earlier this month.
