Measles confirmed in recent Disneyland visitor, OC health officials say

Orange County health officials have issued a public health warning following confirmation of a measles infection in a child who visited the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. The individual was present at the theme park on Wednesday, April 24, while infectious.

Health authorities are actively working to identify and notify anyone who may have been exposed to the virus during this period. Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease that can linger in a space for up to two hours after an infected person has left. The virus spreads through coughing and sneezing.

Symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure and include high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and a distinctive red rash that spreads across the body. Individuals who were at the location on the specified date should review their immunization status and monitor for symptoms.

Vaccination remains the most effective protection against measles. Officials urge residents to ensure they and their families are up to date with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. Anyone experiencing symptoms should contact their healthcare provider by phone before visiting a medical facility to prevent potential further spread.
