With the withdrawal of the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations-backed agency has lost its top donor. In response to this funding gap, the Novo Nordisk Foundation has stepped in, committing up to 380 Danish kroner, equivalent to approximately $58 million, from this year through 2028. This substantial pledge is aimed at bolstering the WHO's efforts in global health initiatives.
Additionally, China has made a significant move by pledging $500 million over the next five years to support the organization. This financial support from both the Novo Nordisk Foundation and China highlights a shift in the landscape of global health funding, as the WHO seeks to maintain its operational capabilities and continue its vital work in addressing health challenges worldwide.
The combined contributions from these entities underscore the importance of international collaboration in health funding, particularly in light of shifting political dynamics and the need for sustained support for global health initiatives.
